The Eighth Pupul Jayakar Memorial Lecture
‘Cultural Diplomacy: Leveraging India’s Soft Power’ by Shyam Saran

Location: India International Centre, Max Mueller Marg, New DelhiShri Shyam Saran, a career diplomat and former Foreign Secretary, Government of India, will explain the concept of Cultural Diplomacy and its impact on creating worldwide connections / networks with other countries taking culture as a platform to share or celebrate cultural affinities. He will talk on enhancing diplomacy through culture without forcing it on people, engaging and promoting cultural values and activities in a positive manner.
This Memorial Lecture held annually as a tribute to INTACH’s Founder Member Smt. Pupul Jayakar draws a cross section of people, including from the field of heritage conservation. Several INTACH publications are released at the lecture.

International Yoga Day
Lecture Demonstration on Yoga by Nisha Mahajan

Location: Multipurpose Hall, INTACH, New DelhiAn interactive yoga lecture demonstration is organized to mark the International Yoga Day. Ms. Nisha Mahajan Founder Trustee of TYAAG-an NGO committed to spreading integrated art education and yoga is the resource person for the event. The focus is on Ashtanga Yoga, a dynamic and physically demanding practice synchronizing breath and movement for physical, mental and emotional health.

Odissi Dance Performance by Suvigya Rawat

Location: Multipurpose Hall, INTACH, New DelhiINTACH started a ‘Young Talent Promotion’ programme under which an Odissi performance is organized. The dancer Suvigya Rawat performed Manglacharan followed by Shiv Tandav.
Manglacharan is paying salutation to ‘Mother Earth’ and concluding with salutations to God, Guru and the audience. Shiv Tandav is described as a vigorous dance that is a source of the cycle of creation, preservation and dissolution.

Screening of audio-visual documentary on ‘Gaya’ by Bappa Ray

Location: Multipurpose Hall, INTACH, New DelhiThe Intangible Cultural Heritage Division of INTACH undertook cultural mapping of the city of Gaya, Bihar, in the context of its significance as a sacred place for the Shradh rituals, and other living elements for which it is known. This is also to support INTACH’s role as the city anchor for Gaya under the HRIDAY programme of the Government of India.
A film (55 mins) by Bappa Ray, showcasing the heritage of Gaya, has been prepared by INTACH. This is first screening of the film at INTACH.

Sanjeev Sanyal is an Indian economist, bestselling writer, environmentalist, and urban theorist. Screening of docu-fiction ‘Farewell my Indian Soldier’ by Vijay Singh

Location: Multipurpose Hall, INTACH, New DelhiIt gives us great pleasure to invite you to the film screening of Vijay Singh’s latest film ‘Farewell My Indian Soldier’ (64 minutes). Vijay Singh is an acclaimed Indian novelist- filmmaker living in Paris.
The film is a docu-fiction, a moving portrayal of Indian Soldiers who came to fight in France and Belgium during the First World War. The Presence of these 150,000 soldiers in Europe is a virtually unknown fact of history.
The film recounts the story of Indian soldiers through the eyes of love and human affection. During the period, children were born to Indian soldiers and French women. These Indo-French Children became the victims of taboo, because of which most people avoided them. This film is inspired by the story of one such child. In this film, a young girl (Paloma Coquant), a descendent of an unknown Indian soldier and his French hostess, journeys across France, Belgium, England and India, and weaves around it the fascinating story of the Indian Soldiers in WW1.
